mystery by – who else? – Carolyn Hart, I make note of the other mystery authors she recommends or quotes. I recognize most of them, but occasionally find a new one. Good to know when venturing near a bookstore.

aking place on fictional Broward Island off the coast of South Carolina,
Dead by Midnight
presents a plethora of suspects in the killing of a woman who had just been fired from a law firm. It is first thought to be a suicide, but Annie Darling, owner of the mystery bookstore
Death on Demand
questions the ruling. Her doubt centers on a towel placed late at night in a gazebo!

wo more deaths quickly follow and a whole family is questioned by authorities, as Annie and her affable husband Max conduct their own investigation.
Death by Midnight
has a devilishly convoluted plot which is what we always expect from author Hart. She doesn't let us down in this one. Good story. And a delight to continue our friendships with the very likable characters – especially Annie's mother-in-law Laura.
