ackson's latest is the fourth and final book in the
House of Hope
series. Gabby Fairbanks is rebuilding her life. She keeps busy with her work at Manna House (a shelter for homeless women) and with the House of Hope (apartments for homeless, single mothers). Her estranged husband, Philip, is recovering from a violent attack (related to gambling debts) and is being sued by his former business partner for embezzlement. While in the hospital, he meets a young man named Will. Will is visiting his grandmother and trying to help her find her long lost sister, Cindy.
W
hile Gabby is planning for her future, she is not sure where Philip fits in. She can see that he is changing, especially when he apologizes and asks her to pray for him. He hopes to re-establish his relationship with Gabby and their sons. Has Gabby moved on with another? Is she willing to let Philip back into her life? What part does Will play, and will he find Cindy?
J
ackson creates characters who seem like old friends, and the reader will quickly care about what happens. The characters are realistic, with flaws and struggles with which anyone can identify. There is not a lot of background information, so it would be wise to read these books in order. This episode is a bit longer than the others, but the character development keeps the reader's attention. Jackson reminds us that God is the only Rock we can rely on, as her characters lay out the importance of prayer, fellowship and a relationship with God.
