mily Portman is lucky in life, or so she thinks until her husband is killed in a tragic accident. They met and fell in love, and settled into Sandy's apartment in the famous Dakota building on the Upper West Side of New York City. The apartment had been in the Portman family for years, and only the wealthy or famous live in the building. Sandy worked on Wall Street for an investment firm and Emily worked for a publishing house as an editor. She also found time to volunteer at the local animal shelter. After the accident Emily realized she did not know her husband at all; in fact he was a terrible husband.
