She's about to meet him for the first time. Angry over her pregnancy, her mother threw her out, and Diana has no choice but to ask her father for help although he deserted her years ago. The neighborhood streets are empty but she can feel the neighbors watching. Allison Montana is surprised to find a pregnant teenager waiting when she and her husband pull into their driveway. She's even more surprised to find out the teenager is Joe's daughter, whom he neglected to mention although they'd been married for eight years. Harsh reality faces Allison, Joe and young Diana. Each day, Allison grows more and more depressed and Diana grows more angry. During the San Diego fires of October 2007, Diana goes missing. While a search is made for her, the Montanas and their neighbors have their own secrets to guard and reason to believe their own lives are about to be exposed. Though this thriller/domestic drama keeps the reader guessing, the multiple points of view make it hard to care about the characters.
