ike the other three women in her dog-walking group, Ginger Garrison has given up on men - and love. Sure, she's got her twin sons to keep her company when they aren't spending time with her cheating ex-husband Larry. But Jason and Josh will soon be off to college. She can't even lose herself in her job - she's just been laid off. Ginger eventually convinces herself she'll be just fine lavishing her love on her incredibly spoiled Bichon Frise, and hanging out with best friends and fellow dog walkers, Bea, Roxanne and Josie and their equally spoiled pooches. Until Josie ruins everything by finding the man of her dreams.

lobetrotting nature photographer Lucio '
Lucky
' Montevez comes to the States to attend his best friend's wedding to Josie and soon finds himself embroiled in a diplomatic incident. The red tape involved temporarily sidelines his career and freezes his bank accounts. Forced to take pet portraits to pay the bills, he's immediately and completely smitten by Ginger Garrison, her sons and her little prima donna dog, HeatherLynne. Thoughts of his next assignment flit right out the window. All Lucky wants to do is stick as close to the lovely Ginger as he can. It doesn't take long for both to act on their mutual attraction and to realise they're in big trouble - especially Ginger. She'd be crazy to let herself fall for the handsome Spanish playboy. He'd only break her heart all over again. But what if their love is the real thing?

onovan doesn't break any new ground with her plot and Lucky seems a little too smooth at first, but by the middle of the book it's clear he's as smitten with Ginger as she is with him. Some of the scenes - and characters (especially the story's villain) are a bit over the top, but as a light romantic comedy, one that also features a darling little dog who thinks she's queen of the world, this
love at first sight
story still delivers plenty of entertaining and laugh-out-loud as well as poignant moments.
The Night She Got Lucky
is sure to help you forget about the real world for a couple of hours.
