aw of Attraction
is a first novel by Allison Leotta, a graduate of Harvard Law School and now a federal sex crimes prosecutor. What better person to write on such a subject? And what an exciting book she has produced.
A
nna Curtis has just been hired as a prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C.. She finds it hard to face each day, given the violence that passes through her office. Anna is especially touched by a young woman, Laprea, who has been beaten by her boyfriend, the father of her twins.
T
his is not the first occurrence. Laprea has dropped charges several times, in order to keep this man in her life. As long as he doesn't drink, she feels safe. But the beatings are becoming more intense and Anna fears for the woman's life.
O
nce again, the man walks free. When Laprea is found dead, beaten almost beyond recognition, naturally suspicion turns to the boyfriend. This is where the story really heats up and becomes a cause to Anna. This case somehow mirrors in her mind as similar to her own story.
T
his debut author has her craft well in hand. The plot could be the old boyfriend/girlfriend bad relationship. But this one takes unexpected twists and turns, heating up the suspense. The characters are well rounded and the reader feels Anna's emotions.
Law of Attraction
is a good read and one not to be ignored.
