Indulgence in Death    by J. D. Robb Order:  USA  Can Putnam, 2010 (2010) Hardcover, CD, e-Book     Reviewed by Martina Bexte Eve Dallas and husband Roarke are barely back from a much-needed two-week vacation when Eve is called back to cop central to investigate a puzzling murder. A partner of a well-respected limousine company is found dead in the front seat of one of his luxury vehicles. Cause of death might not have raised many eyebrows a decade or two before, but in the year 2060 crossbows are illegal. A second victim of a bizarre murder is soon discovered; this time it's a high-priced prostitute with a bayonet through the heart. Eve and her team go into high gear to investigate and she soon has various suspects dead in her sights. Her gut tells her two of them are guilty as sin and loving all the attention. However, proving her hypothesis that two of the richest men in the country are sociopathic killers who've turned murder into a game of oneupmanship, isn't that easy. But as always, Eve is determined to lock both of them into a cage, even if she has to set herself up as a target to get them there. Plenty of funny and poignant moments ensue during Eve and Roarke's visit with his recently discovered aunt and her extended family. What didn't fit into the opening chapters was a fortuitous murder, one where Eve just happens to be available to help out the rookie police officer assigned to investigate. The murder took away from the normalcy that Eve sees so little of in her life. As for the rest of the book, it follows much the same plotline as previous instalments, although this time there's little guesswork required as to the identity of the killers. Eve zeroes in early and works herself and her usual team very hard to prove it. While not as gripping and character rich as past instalments, Indulgence in Death is a good way to indulge yourself, especially if you're a long time fan of Robb's Eve Dallas series.
