Mark Nolan is living the good life as a bachelor until it is brought to a halt by the death of his sister Victoria. Killed in a car crash, she left Mark as the sole guardian of her six year old daughter Holly. Mark is a businessman who feels unprepared to raise a child, but he and his brother Sam are soon head over heels in love with Holly. However, it has been six months since Victoria's death and Holly has not spoken a word.

Maggie Collins owns and operates The Magic Mirror toy store in Friday Harbor, Washington. Maggie knows what it is like to lose someone you love. Two years ago she lost her husband to cancer. She moved to Friday Harbor to start over, and the toy store is helping her move on with life. When Mark takes Holly into the toy store he is shocked that Holly makes such an easy connection with Maggie - indeed, Holly speaks her first words since the accident to her.

Even though Mark is in a relationship, he is attracted to this happy, outgoing, young woman whom his niece adores. Maggie is also attracted to Mark but feels she has had her one chance at happiness already and will never marry again. As the three spend more and more time together, Mark can see the flaws in his current relationship, and when Holly suddenly takes ill it is Maggie who steps in to help out. Mark realizes he must go slowly with Maggie until she is ready to take a second chance at love.

But Holly has already written her Christmas list to Santa for a new mother and Christmas is the time for miracles. Christmas Eve At Friday Harbor is a charming story of family and love, sprinkled with a touch of magic. It is short but oh so sweet!
