J
udith Van Gieson has written eight mysteries in a series featuring lawyer Neil Hamel. In this first of a new series, the author introduces us to rare book expert Claire Reynier. And a fine introduction it is.
C
laire accepts a rare book collection, a bequest from an old friend left to the New Mexican university where Claire works. She travels to the friend's ranch in the remote area known as '
The Blue
' (Van Gieson's short and beautiful depictions of the sun and moonlight playing on the mountains of New Mexico are awesome). The friend arranged for an assisted suicide and has made provision for Claire to be the executrix of his will. After a box of these rare books is stolen from Claire's truck, she becomes involved in intrigue, burglary, murder and fraud, while trying to regain what was stolen.
T
he Stolen Blue
is a fast-paced mystery replete with interesting characters. Tony Hillerman says, '
Van Gieson's back and better than ever. Don't miss The Stolen Blue.
' I agree with him. Don't miss it. This is a great new series, one to get your teeth into. And if you love books, the wealth of information about the world of rare books is a fascinating bonus.
