The Darkest Powers novels, a gripping mix of fantasy and horror, star motherless fifteen-year-old Chloe Saunders, whose closest family member is her physician Aunt Lauren. In late puberty, Chloe begins to see needy ghosts. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, she's sent to a group home for troubled teenagers, who all turn out to have supernatural talents. Necromancer Chloe, sorceror Simon, werewolf Derek and firebug Rae get together for a jailbreak. After Rae is recaptured, the others are joined by witch Tori and pursued cross country by the Edison Group. These adult supernaturals created the teens' abilities through genetic experimentation but kill subjects they deem uncontrollable. The four find refuge in a safe house with a family friend of Simon's and Derek's. When he introduces them to other adult supernaturals in his resistance group, they are horrified by the adolescents' power. There are betrayals, captures and escapes. After a conflagration of violence, the trilogy ends with reunions and a safe haven - but will it last?
