Lily Moore and her sister Claudia have a love-hate relationship. As the oldest, Lily wants to take care of her younger sister, but Claudia is a drug addict and eventually, Lily can no longer stand watching her kill herself. A travel writer, she takes an assignment in Spain and decides to stay. She keeps up the rent on her New York City apartment so Lily will always have a place to stay, but is relieved to be on a different continent.

When Lily is notified that her sister was found dead, she hurries home. Since Claudia's death occurred in the bathtub on the anniversary of their mother's suicide, Lily suspects that Claudia used suicide to punish her for leaving. Heavy with guilt, she goes to identify her sister's body. The dead woman isn't Claudia.

At first Lily is relieved, until she realizes that Claudia is no longer a victim. She is a suspect and she's missing. Even Lily isn't sure whether Claudia is involved in murdering her imposter. Either way, Claudia is in serious trouble and she has to find her.

This dark chiller moves with tense suspense as Lily traces her sister's movements, following clues that point one way and then another. Lily Moore is a flawed but sympathetic heroine who is determined not to let her sister down again.
