R

Department 6
, are assigned to investigate a religious cult that has taken up residence in an abandoned Arizona town called Paradise.
T
he cult was started by charismatic Ethan Wycliff and some of his college buddies. Wycliff is an admirer of Charles Manson, so when a teenage girl disappears and a woman escapes with stories of what happens in the compound, Rachel and Nate are assigned to go in undercover as a married couple.
R
achel has been attracted to Nate since she started working with him. She previously threw herself at him, but he rejected her, hurting her more than he knows. They have to sort out their differences if they want to make this undercover job work.
N
ate is wildly attracted to Rachel but, given his past experience, he will not allow himself to fall in love with her. They are living in a rundown mobile home while trying to infiltrate the compound. Rachel is the best bet to get them in there because Ethan is looking for his
vessel
- a woman who will bear the child of the prophet.
R
achel and Nate fight their attraction while trying to fulfill their mission. But at some points it becomes hard for Nate to let Rachel do her job for fear that he will not be able to get her out. Nate did not start off on the right foot with Ethan and is not trusted.
White Heat
is a real page turner - readers will not put it down until they finish.
