O
kay, I'd never heard of Olivia Munn (an actress, comedian and television host G4's
Attack of the Show
) before I started listening to her autobiographical vignettes in the unabridged audiobook version (4 CDs in 5 hours) of
Suck It, Wonder Woman!: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek
.
B
ut its essay format worked for occasional chuckles during short car trips, and I enjoyed her frank exposure of girlhood angst, being an outsider at school, plus her feelings about Hollywood, the universe and just about everything else. I especially liked her commentary on what zombies can teach us about romance. Be warned that there's not much structure here - memories are all over the map, so that listeners never know what's coming next. There are also plenty of expletives as well as the expected geek references.
T
hough mildly entertaining for any listener (especially the touching parts on childhood and the deservedly caustic ones about Hollywood types with over-developed egos), I'd really only recommend
Suck It, Wonder Woman!
to serious fans. The latter will also appreciate the fact that the audiobook includes bonus videos from the recording studio, as well as a PDF file of photos from the paper version.
