chool teacher Jane London finds it hard to explain to her adopted family why she feels compelled to find her birth mother. To move on with her life, she needs to know why she was given away. They're behind her in her search but worry that the end result might offer more questions than answers.
T
he only clue to Jane's identity is her place of birth. Although she grew up in Houston, she knows she was born in the small town of Cedar Springs in the Texas Hill Country. To support herself while she searches, she takes a job as a nanny to a Asher Price, a rich businessman. Her research is temporarily stymied because the Price children, still recovering from the death of their mother, need her. Their dad is rarely home and often not available by telephone, although he insists Jane consult him when discipline is needed.
N
ot only do the children need Jane, but so does Asher Price. Price is an enigma. One day he is charming and welcoming, the next he is cold and preoccupied. His love for his children is obvious but he neglects them for work.
L
ike her gothic namesake Jane Eyre, Jane finds herself falling in love with her boss. But first she must find out the truth about her birth mother and about Asher's less than perfect wife.
