I
f you are looking for an older and more obscure mystery film to watch, John Howard Reid's
Mystery, Suspense, Film Noir and Detective Movies on DVD: A Guide to the Best in Cinema Thrills
is a pretty decent guide to flip through. Just keep in mind that the ratings that Reid provides are for the quality of the DVD reproduction, not for the movie itself.
H
owever, Reid gives rather in depth comments on each movie, and for some provides other commentary, although most of these are not cited. The end of the book also contains informative longer pieces about the genres and certain specific movies.
