She strongly believes that the string of murders of young college women (whose brutalized and eviscerated bodies were callously dumped in the vast marshland surrounding the Texas beach resort of Lito Island) is the work of a serial killer - one who's been doing his grisly killings for a long time. True crime writer Troy Stockton has reason to take notice of the rookie FBI agent's theory - if Elaina is right then Troy's book is inaccurate and an innocent man is sitting in prison. Determined to dig up the truth and stop the real killer, Troy and Elaina work in concert with an elite team of forensic experts known as the Tracers. As their search escalates however, their target zeroes in on Elaina, promising that her life will be at risk if she comes too close. Procedurally, Unspeakable hits all the right notes, including a creepy villain whose kill method is not for the faint of heart. Unfortunately, the romance and sexual chemistry between Elaina and Troy falls flat. Neither seems emotionally engaged with the other. Elaina seems too obsessed with proving herself in the male dominated world of the FBI - and to her legendary profiler father. As for Troy, he retains his enigmatic and womanizing past until close to the end of the story, by which time his confessions of love are not completely convincing.
