If you ever thought of robbing a bank, Wanted: Gentleman Bank Robber makes a handy textbook for the course Bank Robbery 101.

This small book is written by a nephew of a genuine bank robber as well as by the criminal himself, Leslie Ibsen Rogge. I have to admit I enjoyed the story but had to keep reminding myself that this book is non-fiction.

Rogge spent years robbing banks while on the run from authorities. He prides himself on being non-violent – although he threatened to shoot any bank employee who stood in his way. That's cutting a fine line as to whether it counts as violence.

Somehow he seemed to want readers to believe that what he did was just something he needed to do to live. Just all in a day's work! He eluded law enforcement for years, many of them spent in the company of his third wife.

On the Top Ten Wanted list of the FBI, Rogge now resides in a federal penitentiary with a 65 year sentence in front of him. He lived the high life and has paid a big price. My take on it all is that Rogge is an intelligent man but not so smart.
