Bart Minnock is the founder of the up-and-coming computer gaming giant, U-Play, which he runs with three of his equally brilliant college friends. They, as well as Bart's many other friends, are shocked when he's found beheaded in his uber-secure apartment.

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is especially puzzled over what she and her colleagues ultimately label a locked room murder. But the tenacious cop isn't about to let this latest case - and the elusive killer - stymie her, especially since she's married to a man who is not only U-Play's fiercest competitor, but is also quite capable of showing Bart and his cronies a thing or two about finessing his way into the heart and soul of the very real and very dangerous virtual world that has seemingly managed to kill its creator.

Fans of the Eve Dallas series are initially treated to another nifty mystery, but ultimately the story disappoints. It seems unrealistic that Eve, an admitted technophobe, is the only one who manages to figure out the killer's identity and motivation. It would have been a nice change to have Robb let either Eve's crack tech team, or her husband Roarke (a computer genius in his own right) take the spotlight on this one. Even so, Fantasy in Death is another engaging chapter in this popular futuristic crime series.
