R
achel Farris receives a letter from her grandmother asking her to come home to help with the apple orchard. When she arrives in town she is stopped by none other than Mike Romo and given a speeding ticket. The Romos have been feuding with the Farris family for years over the orchard. No one knows the whole story but it has gone on for generations. When Rachel talks to her grandmother, she finds out that Mike wants to buy the orchard. There is no way that Rachel will let that happen, but she loves her job in Chicago and does not want to leave it.
M
ike has always got along with Rachel's grandmother but Rachel just rubs him the wrong way. He keeps giving her speeding tickets, which irritates Rachel even more though she is also very attracted to him. They can't seem to keep their hands off each other when they are together, which puts a twist on the feud, especially when Mike brings Rachel home to a family cookout.
R
achel thinks that Mike is super hot but can't keep the family feud out of her mind. She is not happy that she feels electricity between them every time they are together. Her grandmother has been telling her the story of the fifty year old feud but only in small increments, and Rachel is dying to know everything that happened. She starts a relationship with Mike, telling herself that it will end when she heads back to Chicago - but can feel herself falling for him hard.
T
oni Blake has created a wonderful story in
Sugar Creek
, that incorporates family histories into a book with a small town feel. It's a pleasure to watch Rachel and Mike fall in love and the story behind the Farris/Romos quarrel is a bonus. This is a great choice for a relaxing summer day.
