T
heresa (Tess) Weller is a proper lady, so when she first meets Colonel Bartholomew James she is horrified by his rude behavior. He just came back from India with a severe injury to his leg. Bitter about events overseas, he returns to face people's perception that he was a coward who left his men to die.
T
ess visits her cousin's house where Tolly is staying. She finds that he has decided to have an operation on his leg, in an attempt to save it. She assists with the surgery and goes back every day to keep him company. Tess has seen traces of kindness in the Colonel and realizes that his rudeness is a cover-up for the trauma he suffered in India. Tess has her own emotional scars (her parents were killed when she was ten) and Tolly's company is helping her.
T
ess can't keep Tolly out of her mind even with all the proper suitors who come calling on her. One kiss from him has turned her to mush. She doesn't want to stay away and is painfully aware that she is in love with Tolly. But when a scandal arises, does she dare risk being ruined?
A
Lady's Guide to Improper Behavior
is the second in Suzanne Enoch's
Adventure
series. Though Tolly and Tess both have emotional baggage, they find comfort in each other. Tolly sometimes infuriates Tess with his behavior but she is also drawn to him. Tolly knows that he should not taint Tess with scandal but he can't stay away. This is a great choice for a lazy weekend read on a warm sunny day.
