M. J. Rose's The Hypnotist is the third in the Reincarnationist series featuring Lucian Glass as the protagonist.

With a super and suspenseful plot that keeps the mind open to whether or not there is really such a thing as reincarnation, The Hypnotist explores the art world as it asks whether art belongs to the museum that feels they own it or the country in which it was created.

Twenty years ago, Solange, the love of Lucian's life, was murdered during a theft. He has still to come to terms with her killing when he meets her cousin who seems to have taken over Solange's soul. He finds himself falling in love once again. But is this love for the cousin or for the memory of Solange?

A stolen Matisse is returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in tatters, with the threat of more stolen art to follow in the same condition unless a 1,500 year old sculpture of the Greek God of Sleep is turned over to the thieves. Imagine a painting desecrated wantonly! And why exchange invaluable paintings worth literally millions for a relatively inexpensive antiquity?

At any rate, action really picks up when Memory Tools become part of the equation and Lucian puts himself in a precarious position to discover the Memory Tools which are supposed to reveal the secret of reincarnation. The ending is a page turner. Enjoy.

The Hypnotist is a captivating book. One that makes one stop and think while still enjoying the so-very-good plot.
