Any book with Peter May as the author is going to be a good one. Freeze Frame is no exception. This is the fourth of the Enzo series. (He also writes the China Thriller series. Don't miss them.)

Enzo MacLeod has made a bet that he could solve seven cold cases about which a friend of his had written a book. He has already been successful in the first three. A dying man made a request that has been unfulfilled after twenty years. The man, an entomologist, has been murdered, leaving behind cryptic clues that no one but his son would be able to decipher. Unfortunately, that son died shortly after his father and the clues became a dead end.

Enzo arrives on a tiny island off the coast of Brittany in France. The locals don't want him there to stir up old memories of a trial they feel solved nothing. As he explores the entomologist's study, which has been left undisturbed for all that time, he feels as though he has at last met his match.

He has certainly met individuals who somehow relate to this mystery - all full-blown characters on whom readers can rest their suspicions. And there's plenty of action to satisfy the most critical. You can't help but like Enzo, the product of Italian and Scots parentage. He tries to see himself as others see him. A difficult thing to do for anyone. He has a love interest in his life but has he lost her? Freeze Frame is a good read.
