The rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party coincided with the transformation of the German military into a capable and very formidable force. The army, in particular, with a troop base and arsenal rivaled by few, expanded until Hitler was ready to unleash its might on his neighbors with the invasion of Poland, followed by Denmark, Norway and France. 'This book is about one of the best-known, consistently professional, frequently controversial, and - initially - most successful armies ever to take the battlefield,' writes David Stone. The military historian goes on to explain that his intent is to provide the reader with 'a clear (and in some cases quite detailed) account and visual picture of the development, organization, operational procedures, training, equipment and officers and soldiers of what might justifiably be called 'Hitler's Army' from 1933 to 1945.' Besides offering a description and analysis of every significant aspect of Germany's WW II ground forces, this detailed, comprehensive reference book features over 300 photos, as well as maps and diagrams. Readers interested in military history and especially World War II will definitely want a copy of this oversized volume for their libraries. Hitler's Army many seem a bit pricey, but once you peruse this book you'll agree it would be steal at twice the price!
