We first became acquainted with archeologist Daniel Knox and Gaille Bonnard in Adams' first book in this series, The Alexander Cipher. When Knox sees an ancient artifact in a marketplace known as Sharia Bab Sedra, he recognizes it as possibly being the top of a jar similar to those found in Quamram in Israel.

Believing an ancient group from Middle Egypt called The Therapeutae is connected with the Essenes of Qumran, Knox feels the jar top proves his assumption. A long held theory that Moses of the Israelite Exodus might have a connection with pharaoh Akhenaten is the basis for Knox's theory.

He consults Dr. Omar Tawfiq, interim head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, for affirmation of his theory. They find there is one dig in progress where the jar top could have been excavated. Their visit to the dig is not welcomed. While being chased from the site, Tawfiq and Knox crash. Tawfiq dies and Knox is accused of his murder based on the testimony of a fire and brimstone preacher who wants Knox out of the way of his dig.

Meanwhile, Knox's friend Gaille is showing a TV crew of two around Amarna. No one can stand the pompous TV personality, Stafford, except his meek assistant, Lily. Their activities lead to kidnapping by a dirty policeman and his henchmen. Gaille manages to send a message to Knox, not knowing he is in an Egyptain jail.

Anyone who likes history, antiquities and fast-paced action will enjoy The Exodus Quest. There is Biblical history and much supposition of the meaning of other ancient texts. With many well-crafted characters, the reader must be quick to keep the flow of the story as the segments are short and jump from one character to another.

The Exodus Quest is fiction based on fact. There is plenty of action and danger as Knox tries to save Gaille, and Gaille tries to save herself and the TV crew. Knox and Gaille could become important series characters on the historical mystery scene.
