Flynn MacGregor has been turning down the same man's proposal for years. Town sheriff Beau Trainer has asked her to marry him four times. This is the fifth time and he wants a yes. So he tells her that he will co-sign a loan so that she can fulfill her dream of opening a yarn shop in memory of her mother. All the women of her knitting group think she should marry him - after all he was her high school sweetheart, or so they believe. But Flynn has a couple of secrets, one being that she can't knit to save her life and the other that Jesse Calloway was her first love.

Jesse Calloway was jailed for cocaine and gun possession, but is released early after he saves a fellow prisoner and heads off a riot. The only place he knows is Twilight, Texas. He also wants revenge on the one who put him in prison on a bogus charge. When he arrives, a friend co-signs a loan for him to open up a motorcycle shop. The only problem is it is the same place where Flynn was going to open the yarn shop. When Jesse learns that Flynn was going to open a yarn shop there, he offers to rent out a section of it to her and she agrees.

Jesse and Flynn see each other often and know that the chemistry is still there. But the tension between Jesse and Beau is getting out of control. Flynn knows she still has feelings for Jesse but her engagement to Beau is weighing heavily. She could never cheat on him but her feelings for Jesse are not going to change. She has spent most of her life trying to make people happy and wonders when it will be her own turn.

Both leads are complex with past secrets. Jesse has been in prison. Flynn feels as if she needs to make sure her father stays sober and lives in a little town where everyone knows everything. The secondaries make the story complete. Its twists and turns will keep readers captivated for a lazy afternoon of enjoyable reading.
