The reason? Kris is carrying a heavy load of guilt that she cannot unload. Hence, she doesn't sleep. Although her mother and sister think it is a dead end, Kris is happy with her job. Naturally, Kris would like to move up in the newspaper business and the best way would be to write a front-page feature. She finds the perfect story in the unsolved case files. The murder of a young cocktail waitress, her body left in a garbage bag, has never been solved. Kris jumps on the story, like a dog on a bone, without her editor's permission. As Kris questions the family of the young murder victim, Diana, she finds empathy and understanding of her own guilt in the murder of her cousin. She also finds danger, love and a family who accepts her for who she is. I enjoyed this mystery very much. It is well written and well put together with clues dropped so skillfully, I didn't pick up on them. There is tension and conflict in Kris's job, in her family, and most of all as she deals with the people who knew Diana twenty-five years ago. Edgy suspense and sweet romance make for an enjoyable read. I'll be looking for another book by this first time mystery writer soon.
