In his introduction to Werewolves, Jon Izzard reminds readers that 'If the werewolf signifies the beast within man - the beast that is eternally at odds with civilization - we are all werewolves.' He continues to elaborate on The Beast Within before addressing Werewolves & Popular Culture, The She-Wolf, Fact & Folklore, and (in conclusion) Defence Against the Werewolf. His book is well illustrated with photos and sketches, from movie scenes to an Egyptian wall painting of Anubis.

Izzard covers the gamut in Werewolves, including related medical conditions (lycanthropy, hypertrichosis, hirsutism, porphyria); werewolves in world mythology, literature and popular culture (books and movies get a thorough coverage, from the classics to the recent Twilight series); astral entities; totems; wolfish expressions; the wolf's lessons; other shapeshifters; feral children (raised by wolves); the sinister moon; werewolf dreams; rabies; shamanic traditions; menstruation, werewolfism and PMS; reports of werewolf encounters; defences against werewolves (from love to wolfsbane); lupinome related research; and wolf conservation.

Feel like exploring your inner wolf? Then you'll enjoy Jon Izzard's Werewolves, which delves into the legend but also advocates for real wolves, reminding us of the proverb that 'A dog is three meals away from being a wolf'.
