n addition to being paralyzed, Antwone has been told that his paralysis has resulted in a loss of sexual function, and he is convinced that his wife would be better off without him. Antwone was also a very talented basketball player before his injury, and he is devastated by the fact that he will no longer be able to participate in a sport which he loves.

r. Brenden McCarthy, blind as a result of a mountain climbing accident, is a successful psychiatrist with a wife, two children, and a wonderful guide dog named Nelson. When Brenden first meets Antwone after deciding to volunteer his time counseling wounded vets, Antwone has no desire to listen to anything the good doctor suggests, as he is convinced his life is over. But while sharing his struggles to adapt to his own disability, Brenden is able to make Antwone realize that the world is full of opportunities whether a person is able-bodied or not.

is one of those books that will warm you from the inside out. The connection between Brenden, his wonderful black Lab Nelson, and ultimately Antwone, is developed in a story not to be missed.
