Horse Training In-Hand: A Modern Guide to Working from the Ground is filled with photos and diagrams that show how to apply the time-tested techniques of in-hand schooling that have been part of classical horse training for years.

No matter the situation, from retraining a problem horse to supplementing everyday under-saddle exercises, work-in hand offers a wonderful way to advance your horse's education as well as reinforce or improve the communication so necessary between you and the animal.

The authors' instructions follow a progression from work on the longe and double-longe, to long lines, short reins, and long reins. The ultimate goal of this training is to help the horse reach the point where he is balanced on both sides of his body, moves straight in both directions on kines and curves, and is strong and supple. With the attainment of this goal the horse will be not only able to support his own weight but also carry the rider correctly and efficiently.

If you have been thinking about in-hand training or would just like to know about it, this is an excellent volume that should answer most of your questions and get you started on the right foot.
