Why else would she believe that she's living in her favourite Regency romance? Ally's not about to turn her back on the woman who all but raised her after Ally's parents abandoned her on Granny's doorstep. Despite Ally's care and new medication Granny Donny continues to fall deeper into her Lady Donatella persona, who proclaims that she's found the perfect man for Ally. The virile and handsome Dulcet Duke is certain to sweep Ally off her slippered feet and rescue her from impending spinsterhood. Advertising whiz and modern day rake Sam Carson doesn't take life too seriously - he believes in living one day at a time and having a lot of fun while doing it. So he's got absolutely no qualms about going along with Granny Donny's silly delusions. If she wants him to pose as a rakish Regency Duke, he'll give it his all and then be the first to move on once her condition has run its course - that is until he steals his first chaste kiss from good girl schoolmistress Ally Giordano. As the charade continues, Sam realises he's in trouble and that he's falling hard for Ally. But gaining her trust and trying to convince her that he's serious about setting aside his rakish ways isn't going to be so easy. Holquist deftly blends two favourite genres and sets the tone for a unique, witty, feel good romantic romp in How to Tame a Modern Rogue. Character wise, the fun-loving, glib and commitment shy Sam all but steals the show as he embraces Granny Donny's scheme with aplomb and imagination - and just the right degree of Regency roguishness once he sets his sights on sweeping Ally into his own fairytale. She on the other hand sometimes comes across as rather brittle and tends to dwell a little too much her parents' abandonment. Even so, this nicely realised story will leave readers smiling.
