ixteen-year-old Ever survives the fatal car crash that kills her family. When her long hospitalization ends she goes to live with her aunt in Laguna Beach, California. Ever's life has changed forever and so has Ever. Now she can read minds, see auras, and gets daily visits from the ghost of her little sister.
E
ver, a popular cheerleader from Oregon, becomes a freak in California. An MP3 player is her constant companion. It helps drown out the painful clamoring of other people's minds. She wears unattractive hoodies to hide her ear bud.
E
ver has two friends, a goth girl and a gay guy, who are also outcasts. Damen Auguste changes things. Damen is new at school. She can't read his thoughts or see his aura. He seems interested in her sometimes, but at others acts more like a player, flirting with the same girls who ignore and harass her. Ever's not able to resist Damen and she's not alone. Everyone wants to be with him, but he seems to want Ever – most of the time. She is unable to understand or trust the attraction she feels for him.
T
his urban fantasy is a lot like popular vampire books since vampires are immortal also. It moves at a fast pace but slows down at the conclusion. Damen spends a lot of time explaining and re-explaining why he is immortal and why Ever alone lived through the car accident. She has a decision to make and she can't seem to make it, but overall this love story is a good read with winning characters.
