A
ndy Carpenter has become known as the
Lawyer to the Dogs
. In David Rosenfelt's
New Tricks
, he represents an adorable but manic (Bernese Mountain Dog) puppy in a custody fight.
U
nfortunately for the dog and everyone else involved, the owner has been brutally murdered. Andy is truly concerned with the welfare of the puppy (named Waggy for the constant motion of his tail) and manages to win the disposition of the dog from a judge.
W
hether others want the dog for the fortune attached to him, or just because they love him, proves hard to decide. Especially when one of the contenders is blown up in a house Andy and Waggy have just vacated. The owner's son is arrested. Going further in the plot might destroy the enjoyment in the story. It's too good to give out hints.
T
his is a fun book that generates many, many laughs, a few guffaws and several roll-in-the-aisles belly laughs. It also is a clever plot that is well written with enjoyable characters. What more can one want in a book? This is the seventh in the series featuring Andy Carpenter. Hopefully there will be an eighth.
