She speed dates. She secretly pines over her best friend. She sizes up every man on the street as a prospect. But it all seems to be going nowhere. That is, until God enters the picture. Jessie is forced to believe when a (somewhat adorable) man confronts her, can read her thoughts, tells her about her life, and walks through walls. God-in-the-flesh is here, Jessie thinks, to save the day and find her prince. She quickly points God toward her best friend, Blake, and goes on her merry way. But this God-figure seems to want a lot more from her than just a wave in the right direction. Never the Bride is innovative and fun. Based on a screenplay that will come to life in 2010, the book has quirky characters fit for a vivacious film. While somewhat aggravating, Jessie is also vulnerable and lovable. I think many women, especially those in a season of single life, can relate to her more than they would like to be able to. Women want to be loved, quirks and annoying behavior and all. Jessie exhibits what can happen if we let the reigns go and let God write His amazing plan for our life. A one-sitting kind of book, Never the Bride would be great for a summer trip to the beach or a cozy night at home.
