So when her best friend dies in childbirth and tells her the name of the Duke who is the father, she is determined to make him acknowledge his son. She tracks down Thornton Matherton, Duke of Wyldehaven. Though he insists that he is not the father, his own mother says the child is a Matherton child - and Thornton is the only son.

Thornton places Miranda in a house with servants until he can find out who the baby's father is. He is fascinated by Miranda's beauty and can't seem to stay away from her.

hornton is desperate to clear his name and determined to find the imposter before he hurts someone badly, but Miranda is distracting him. The more time Miranda spends with Thornton - and notices his kindness and his feelings toward the baby - the more she realizes that there has to be an imposter. She is falling in love with Thornton and must leave before she gets hurt. But the imposter - who realizes the Duke is falling in love with her - has his eyes on Miranda. Can Thornton get to the imposter before he shatters his dreams?
