F
aith Duffy has never felt the need to apologise for her past. She rose from being a stripper and Playboy centrefold to become the much-maligned trophy wife of billionaire Virgil Duffy. When he'd offered to
take care of her
, she couldn't refuse. She'd had enough of living hand-to-mouth and was desperate to escape from a mother who'd taught her daughter that men were as plentiful as candy and that true love was nothing but a pipe dream.
W
hen Virgil dies and leaves Faith his professional hockey team she doesn't quite know what to make of his gift. She's more than happy to sell the Seattle Chinooks to Virgil's annoying son. But when negotiations degenerate to Landon's worse than usual verbal slurs, Faith's temper finally snaps and she pulls her offer. She may not know a slap shot from a hat trick but she's determined to show Landon, and the rest of the world, that she's more than just the gold digger everyone has always labelled her.
T
yson Savage, the Chinook's recently acquired captain, is furious when Faith announces her intentions. As a healthy heterosexual male, he's always appreciated the Widow Duffy's many
assets
. But the woman has to be delusional if she thinks she has the balls to run a pro hockey team and completely insane if she believes she could lead the team into the playoffs. It's soon clear however, that the former Playmate isn't just blowing smoke. Within weeks, the Chinooks are on the hunt for Lord Stanley's Cup and Ty and Faith are doing more than just glowering at each other over a boardroom table. Both know that a relationship would be a complete disaster - but with a passion that's hot enough melt ice, how can they resist?
G
ibson's voice always shines the brightest when she's weaving tales involving her Seattle based hockey team, the Chinooks. While this plot line is a bit more lightweight than in previous instalments, Gibson's gift for humour, snappy dialogue and creating some truly sizzling chemistry between arrogant and surly team captain Ty Savage and rags-to-riches owner Faith Duffy, makes up for it. You don't have to be a hockey fan to enjoy
True Love and Other Disasters
- it's another winning addition to Rachel Gibson's series about the fictional Chinooks hockey team.
