egan Elliot, FBI Supervisory Agent in Sacramento, has been called to a murder scene. The victim has been hamstrung and then tortured before being shot in the head. Megan Brennan's
Sudden Death
grabs the reader's attention on the first page and doesn't let go until the dynamic ending, with a love story is woven in to titillate the senses.

s Megan works the case, she finds that a military operation in Afghanistan is somehow involved. Someone is tracking down the men who participated in a thwarted attack and killing them. Revenge? Covering tracks? As Megan is able to connect two other killings of a similar nature, Jack Kinkaid enters the picture. Jack, a member of a hostage rescue team, knew the murdered men and is determined to find the person or persons responsible for the torture and death of his compatriots.

his very satisfying read presents loads of action that keeps the pages flying - and makes one wonder how much is pure fiction and how much of it could really happen. The tension between different government agencies, unwilling to divulge important information to each other, strikes a true note. The sheriff of a little border town makes one wary of heading in that direction. The depths of madness are plumbed as are the lengths to which someone might go just because they can. Family dynamics play a role and make one realize that nothing is worse than losing the love and regard of one's own family. And we see how one action can affect so many lives for so long.
S
udden Death
is the first book of an
FBI Trilogy
and a very good read. I look forward to the second in the series,
Fatal Secret
.
