Dangerous Attachments    by Sarah Lovett Order:  USA  Can Pocket, 2002 (1997) Hardcover, Paperback, Audio Read an Excerpt     Reviewed by Mary Ann Smyth I read and reviewed Sarah Lovett's last book in her series about a forensic psychologist, Dantes' Inferno, and liked it very much - well written, with a complex and intriguing plot. So I jumped at the chance to read her first novel of the same series, Dangerous Attachments. This is another good read. Dr. Sylvia Strange, the main character, deals with the twisted and depraved minds of those incarcerated in the New Mexico State Penitentiary. On what ultimately turns out to be a bad day, she interviews Lucas Watson and so unleashes terrifying actions by Lucas and other inmates of the State Penn. With suspenseful action that moves at a good clip, Dangerous Attachments proved hard to put down. The plot is viable and horrifyingly believable. The characters are fleshed out and move through the story as though this were real life (even Dr. Strange's dog Rocko has real doggy traits.) Blood and gore play a big part in these books, as do the machinations of the criminal mind. I have not yet read books two and three - Acquired Motives and A Desperate Silence - and I also look forward to Sarah Lovett's next book about Sylvia Strange, Dark Alchemy.
