T
he mystery - of what turned perfect Parker Fadley overnight from a driven honor student and cheerleader captain into the school loser - pulls the reader through Courtney Summers'
Cracked Up To Be
. The author reveals tantalising pieces of the puzzle through flashbacks as Parker lashes out at everyone around her and careens from one high school crisis to another.
P
eople try to help Parker - her parents, her ex-boyfriend Chris (who still cares even though he's dating another), the school principal and guidance counselor - but she rejects them all. Only a new student at the school, one with a big issue of his own, is able to get even a little close to Parker. And it's Jake's curiosity about past events - as well as the return to school of another traumatized teenager, Evan - that become the catalyst for answers to the puzzle of Parker's self-destructive misbehavior and anxiety attacks - and the key to another darker mystery.
I
highly recommend
Cracked Up To Be
as a very well written, engrossing read. Don't miss it!
