I
normally thoroughly enjoy Tamar Myers' series featuring Magdelena Yoder, with her B&B and more than wacky neighbors. Same holds true for Abigail Timberlake and her Den of Antiquity shop. Abby's outrageous mother and doings in Charleston have always brought forth a chuckle or two from me.
H
owever, in
Death of a Rug Lord
, Abby seems just a tad too outrageous. The plot has a great theme, with plenty of action to keep it moving along. Mama and her crinoline skirts just take it a bit too far for me. Abby discovers that the fine oriental carpets that the movers and shakers of Charleston are buying are nothing but modern copies. This leads Abby to do her very best to find out just what is happening to the wonderful antique rugs. And, of course, Abby heads right into danger.
T
he ending is a disappointment – not up to Myers' usual standards. But we can all have an off day, and I certainly will continue to read and laugh over future books by Tamar Myers.
