fter a failed marriage straight out of high school, Gabby met and married Philip Fairbanks. From a wealthy, successful family in Virginia, Philip decides to move to Chicago to expand the family business, while their two sons remain in Virginia to complete the term at the private boarding school which all Fairbanks men attend. Before the move, Gabby raised her boys and supported her husband's career, all while having a satisfying job of her own. Suddenly, Gabby finds herself in Chicago feeling lost and without a sense of purpose.
A
chance encounter with Lucy, a homeless woman, leads Gabby to Manna House (a women's shelter). She feels that God is leading her to apply for a job as their Program Director. Philip is less than supportive of her job, her new friends, and her relationship with God. Philip believes Gabby is trying to sabotage him and his new business. Gabby's world is thrown into disarray when Philip gives her an ultimatum. She finds solace in the lyrics of a song she hears at a Manna House church service: '
Where do I go ... when there is no one else to turn to? Who do I talk to…when nobody wants to listen? Who do I lean on ... when there's no foundation stable? I go to the Rock. I know that He's able. I go to the Rock.
' After turning to God, what decision will Gabby make?
