A
nne Perry, author of the
William Monk
as well as the
Charlotte and Thomas Pitt
historical mystery series, has continued her tradition of writing a Christmas story for her eager fans.
A
Christmas Grace
takes place on the west coast of Ireland. I could almost smell the sea in the air and hear waves rushing toward the shore. As Christmas nears, Thomas Pitt's sister-in-law Emily Radley is called from London to be with her dying aunt. She travels to a small village in Connemara to help her aunt, who had been all but forgotten by her family because she married a man of whom her father disapproved.
W
hat Emily discovers is a years' old mystery involving a shipwreck and one of its survivors. The man was later found murdered with no clue as to who killed him. Today, there has been another wreck and yet another survivor. This one can't remember just who he is. He seems to have made a hit with the women in the village which, of course, does not sit too well the men.
E
mily perceives the unrest that pervades her aunt's life because of this old crime and she sets about trying to find the person responsible. Perry packs her pages with the ambience of this tiny village and with the thoughts and feelings of those residents who were there when the killing took place.
A Christmas Grace
is a very good story to take its place among her other Christmas books.
