ogan Thibault spent three tours of duty in Iraq with the Marines. While there, he found a photo buried in the sand. While others in his unit were injured or killed, Logan always managed to escape unharmed. As a result, his best friend Victor encouraged him to find the girl in the photo who appeared to be his good luck charm in Iraq.

ased on the clues in the photo, Logan lands in Hampton, North Carolina (having walked there from Colorado). Deputy Keith Clayton has a brief encounter with Logan and his first impression is anything but favorable. Imagine his dismay when he finds Logan working at the local kennel with his ex-wife Beth. Logan and his dog Zeus appear to be bonding with Keith's son Ben, in a manner he has been unable to achieve. Keith is determined to keep Logan from becoming involved with Beth, so he investigates Logan's past. Will the information he uncovers destroy the developing relationship between Logan and Beth and send her back into Keith's arms?
I
n true Nicholas Sparks fashion, the reader is engaged from the first to last page. The characters are authentic and the plot is engrossing and emotionally charged. Sparks is a talented storyteller who is adept at tugging the reader's heartstrings.
