ary Jo Wyse lives with her three protective, older brothers. After their parents were killed in a car crash five years earlier, they all remained in the family home. At twenty-three, Mary Jo was eager to leave and be independent. Working for an insurance company she met an older man, and being naive, believed all his promises. When she first found out she was pregnant, David seemed happy, but as her due date drew near, she saw less and less of him.

ow with her baby due in a few weeks, Mary Jo has come to the realization that she will probably never see David again. How could she have been such a fool? Remembering David said he was spending Christmas at Cedar Cove with his family, Mary Jo flees the house to warn him that her three brothers are out to find him and force him into marrying their sister. Mary Jo now knows the marriage would never work out.
A
rriving in Cedar Cove on Christmas Eve, Mary Jo sets out to find David. After making inquiries, she heads to the local library where Grace Harding can help her with information. She learns that David's family is away on vacation and that David hasn't been seen. The people of Cedar Cove know of David's reputation and feel protective towards this young woman carrying a child. After having a dizzy spell and being treated by paramedics, Mary Jo finds comfort in one of the young men, Mack McAfee. She is drawn to his kind and gentle manners and his peaceful ways. Grace insists Mary Jo spend the night at her place in the apartment over the stables.

eanwhile the three Wyse men have followed their sister to Cedar Cove. They want nothing more than to have their sister home with them for Christmas. But Mary Jo goes into labour before they arrive, and once again Mack McAfee is called in to help deliver this Christmas bundle above the stables. This is a unique Christmas for all. The Hardings feel blessed to have given Mary Jo a place to stay, and Mack feels he has met a wonderful person. When Mary Jo is reunited with her brothers, they are all in for a very special Cedar Cove Christmas. Once again Debbie Macomber has given us a warm and wonderful Christmas story full of faith, hope, and love.
