The Manual for Motherhood
is an interesting collection of essays and poems from the
Mothering Heights Mother's Day Essay Contest
. Split into sections like
Madness & Mayhem
and
Feeding the Zoo
, essays relate anecdotes from pregnancy to those about dealing with adult children.
W
hile it is a cute, quick read, I was bothered by the lack of any apparent proofreading (sorry, I am a copy editor in my 9 to 5). If you are not psychotic when it comes to that sort of thing, you will probably enjoy reading the fun (although rampantly sentimental) essays written by a collection of authors of all ages and stages - 31 women authors and one man whom I found very charming. My administrative assistant assured me that I would understand it all better once I became a mom; she found many of the essays hysterical as a mom of three girls under five.
T
he Manual for Motherhood
could be a cute gift book for a pregnant friend or an easy read for those moms who want someone else out there to relate to their situation.
