agic in the Mirrorstone
is a collection of fifteen new, short fantasy stories aimed at young adults. While the anthology includes tales by well-known fantasy writers such as Holly Black and Ann Zeddies, only one author, Tiffany Trent, is currently published by
Mirrorstone
.
E
ach of the stories in
Magic in the Mirrorstone
is about a teenager who encounters some sort of magic, but aside from that they differ vastly. Some - such as Lawrence M. Schoen's
The Amulet of Winter
and Gregory Frost's
The Fortune Dream
- are set in fantasy lands, while others - like Cecil Castelluci's
Lights, Camera, Action
and Holly Black's
Virgin
- are set in the modern world. There are historical fantasy shorts, including Tiffany Trent's
Blackwater Baby
and E. Sedia's
Out of Her Element
. And there are even retellings of fairytales, such as Eugie Foster's
Princess Bufo marinus, Also Known as Amy
and Beth Bernobich's
Pig, Crane, Fox: Three Hearts Unfolding
.
N
o matter what style of fantasy they represent, all of the stories in
Magic in the Mirrorstone
are well-written, gripping tales that are sure to find their way into fantasy lovers' hearts.
