Always ready to push the envelope, Jackson lives life on the edge, carrying fifteen-year-old Ava along with him. He teaches her to face her fears and learn the excitement of overcoming them. She feels so alive when she's with Jackson.

During a beginning of summer party, Ava issues a dare that will put Jackson in his grave. Now she attends his funeral and faces a lifetime of regret and sorrow.

Just when Ava thinks she can't stand the loss and her loneliness, Jackson comes back to her. She doesn't believe in ghosts, but she's not surprised that their love is that strong. She soon realizes that having a boyfriend that no one else can see and whom she cannot touch makes her lonelier than ever. Why did he come back? Was it because he loved her or to hold on to her forever? Ava finally realizes she must choose between living her life or living in her memories.

Shroeder has written a sweet, tragic love story. Her choice of free verse makes the tale feel as light as the ghost Jackson has become, and as breathless as only a good love story can be.
