American Torrey Tunet, an interpreter with a true facility for languages, spends her off time in a wee cottage in the Wicklow area, just south of Dublin, Ireland. Her slightly overweight significant other, Jasper Shaw, joins her when his work as a newspaper columnist permits. Blackmail, assault, uncertain paternity, adultery, corrupting the morals of a minor - not to mention murder - bring Torrey's amateur sleuthing skills into play, to the chagrin of Inspector O'Hare. He prefers to be able to take the credit for solving crimes on his turf. The Irish Cairn Murder is the third in this series featuring Torrey Tunet. I enjoyed the book, but felt I did not know the characters. Somehow they seemed bland with little depth. However, the convoluted plot keeps the reader guessing right up to the end, making the time spent worthwhile.
