H
appily, the redheaded McAfee twins are back with a Christmas mystery on Catalina Island just in time for the ho-ho-ho season. Great-aunt Reba, Cousin Robert, Kerry and Terry sail on the ferry to the island for a quiet Christmas away from the stress and strain of everyday life - on Aunt Reba's nickel. Wonderful idea. One they all embraced.
I
mmediately things begin to fall apart. A dive instructor - on whom Terry had her eye - tells the twins she is being stalked and ultimately turns up dead. A newly-wed's wife walks out on him, leaving behind a ten million dollar green diamond ring. Rightful possession of that ring is up in the air. The newly-wed's ex-wife stalks him and anyone else connected to him. A French poodle comes to Robert from his natural father. The poodle causes a buffalo stampede that almost demolishes Terry and Kerry. Terry is romanced by a handsome artist and possible terrorist.
L
oose ends flutter all over the island. Action - in the form of shootings, assaults and nasty phone calls - and a billboard in Paris keep the twins on their toes. As always, they manage to tie up all those ends, this time with a little help from some fellas from Homeland Security.
The Con Artist of Catalina Island
is Jennifer Colt's fourth novel in this highly entertaining series. What fun.
