Horrified when a small child runs in front of a carriage, Simon Blackwell plucks him out of harm's way. He is furious when he meets Annabel, thinking she was not watching her son. But the boy happens to be her cousin Caro's child. When Caro learns of the rescue, she invites Simon to dinner. Annabel wants nothing to do with the rude man, but makes the best of a bad situation.

In the next few weeks, they attend many of the same social functions and Annabel learns that Simon lost his wife and son in a fire. She understands why he is so ornery now, so when he decides to kiss her she doesn't resist. Though they are caught and forced to marry, love doesn't seem to be part of the equation.

Annabel becomes heartbroken when Simon insists that there will be no children and that a divorce will ensue in a year's time. Both Simon and Annabel have fallen for each other. Though Simon can't let go of the guilt he feels from the fire that took his family, he also can't seem to keep his hands off his new wife. But Annabel doesn't want a marriage of convenience. She wants a life filled with love.

The Secret Passion of Simon Blackwell is a heartfelt story. Simon is surprised by the feelings that Annabel stirs within him. Annabel wants to help Simon get over his past and become capable of love again. Samantha James writes with a passion that makes the reader regret the story's coming to an end.
