I bow my head in recognition of a fine writer who has certainly not traded on his name. Every one of his books packs a bigger punch than the last and The Devil's Labyrinth is no exception. Fifteen-year-old Ryan McIntyre is enrolled in St. Isaac's boarding school. His mother hopes this move will take him away from unruly elements at his old public school. Now, Ryan almost wishes for the good old days at his previous school, where he only got beat up on a regular basis. A student has disappeared at St. Isaac's, and another has gone berserk - he attacked and killed a woman on the street and was then gunned down by police. The atmosphere at St. Isaac's is anything but conducive of learning. A sense of impending doom permeates the air. Father Sebastian thinks it more the essence of evil that resides inside the students. He feels he has perfected the art of exorcism – a skill that brings him to the attention of the Pope. From there, elegant suspense rules. The tale is further enhanced by another element bent on a coup that would rock the world. Action in this gripping story never seems to end. It's almost exhausting. But one must read on to experience the explosive ending. The characters arrive full blown on the pages, acting just as they are meant to in the roles assigned to them. If you're squeamish, maybe you should give this novel a miss. But if chilling, riveting, spellbinding books are your forte, The Devil's Labyrinth is a must read.
